Toddler through Middle School Education

Admission Process

Since choosing a school is one of the most important decisions you will make for your child, we require that all prospective parents schedule a visit to tour the campus before applying for admission.

Parents schedule a visit to MANJ, which will include viewing a short video about Montessori, a tour of the school and observation of the classes in progress, followed by a meeting with the School Head who will answer your questions and share our philosophy with you.  We require that all prospective parents visit before applying for admission.

Interested parents are encouraged to submit a completed Application for Admission together with a $100.00 non-refundable application fee.  Since we have rolling enrollment, applications are accepted throughout the year.

Student Interview

Upon receipt of your application, we will contact you to arrange an interview for you and your child with our teachers.  The interview is designed to gain information about your family and your child, introduce your child to the classroom, and share more information about our school.  The teachers interact with your child and present lessons as a way to get to know your child, assessing some of your child’s interests and learning styles.

Admission Decision

You will be notified of the admission decision within a week of the interview.   A non-refundable deposit of 10% of the annual tuition is due within two weeks of being notified of acceptance in the school.  When an appropriate space is not available, the student will be placed in the Wait Pool, to be contacted when space becomes available.

Criteria for Acceptance of New Students:

The main criteria are the appropriate age of the child (18 months to 2 1/2 years for the toddler program, 2 years 9 months to 3 years 9 months for the primary program, 6 to 9 years of age for the elementary program and 11 to 13 years of age for the middle school/adolescent program), and the parents’ interest and support of our philosophy and goals.

  • Parents are committed to have their child complete the 3 to 4 year cycles for the primary and the full cycle of the elementary program or middle school/adolescent program.
  • Children over the age of 4 who have not been in another Montessori program will be considered for admission on an individual basis and only if the family’s intention is to continue their education at MANJ through the elementary grades; there is an additional financial commitment, please call the office for details.
  • Admission to the elementary program is based on completion of the primary program.  Exceptions are made on an individual basis at the discretion of the School Head.
  • Admission to the middle school/adolescent program is on an individual basis. Priority is given to students who have attended a Montessori primary or elementary program.
  • Consideration for admission is based on available vacancy to keep the classrooms balanced as to temperament, age and gender.
  • Preference is given to applicants for the toddler program who intend to continue into the primary program.

The Fall entrance of students new to the school may be staggered over a six week period, up to and possibly including, the middle of October.  Students entering during this period are subject to full tuition.

An adjustment period is expected for all new students entering the Toddler or Primary program whether they start in September or mid-year.  Experience has shown that young children need short increments of time to establish procedures, ground rules and comfort in new situations, therefore all new Toddler and Primary students attend for one hour for their first five days.
